Privacy Policy

SA Says ("the App") is a public opinion polling platform for South African residents. The App allows users to vote anonymously on polls without creating an account or providing personal information.

This privacy policy applies to all users of the SA Says mobile application available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

Device Identifier: We generate an anonymous device identifier by combining a random ID stored on your device with your device's built-in vendor identifier (Apple's identifierForVendor on iOS, or your device's ANDROID_ID on Android). We use this identifier to remember your poll responses and enforce a "one phone, one vote" policy. It is not your name, phone number, IMEI, or any other identifier that a mobile carrier could trace back to you, and it is not linked to your personal identity. Uninstalling and reinstalling the App generates a new identifier.

Location Data (optional): For location-based polls, the App may request access to your device's GPS location. If you grant permission, we use your coordinates solely to determine your province, municipality, and ward. We do not store your exact GPS coordinates. Only the derived geographic region (province, municipality, ward) is stored alongside your anonymous vote.

Poll Responses: Your voting selections are stored anonymously and associated only with your device identifier and (where applicable) geographic region.

Through the App, SA Says does not collect, store, or process:

• Your name or surname
• Email address
• Phone number
• Physical address
• IP address (beyond standard server logs)
• Photos, contacts, or other device data
• Any information that could directly identify you as an individual

No account registration is required to use the App. We do not use social media logins or any third-party authentication services.

The one exception is our website contact form, which asks for your name and email address so we can reply to you. That is described in Section 12 and is never linked to your poll votes.

The limited data we collect is used exclusively to:

• Record and display poll results
• Prevent duplicate voting (one device, one vote per poll)
• Segment poll results by geographic region (when location is provided)
• Remember which polls you have already voted on so you can view results

Location data is only requested for polls that are specifically tagged as "Location Polls." You can decline location access and still use the App for non-location polls.

When you do share your location, we perform a one-time lookup to determine your province, municipality, and ward. Your exact GPS coordinates are not retained after this lookup. The stored geographic data cannot be used to pinpoint your physical location beyond the municipal ward level.

All data is stored on secure servers. We implement industry-standard security measures to protect stored data from unauthorised access, alteration, or destruction. Since we do not collect personally identifiable information, the risk of identity-related data breaches is inherently minimised.

The App may use third-party services for analytics or crash reporting (such as Firebase or similar platforms). These services may collect anonymous usage data and device information in accordance with their own privacy policies. No personally identifiable information is shared with these services.

SA Says is intended for adults. You must be 18 or older to use the App and to enter a prize draw. The App is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.

Because we deliberately collect no personally identifiable information, we have no mechanism to verify a user's age. The age requirement is therefore a condition of use rather than something the App checks. If you believe a child has been using SA Says, please contact us.

Poll responses are retained for as long as the poll remains active or archived within the App. Device identifiers are stored to maintain the one-vote-per-device policy. Since no personal information is collected, there is no personal data to delete.

If you wish to reset your voting history, uninstalling and reinstalling the App will generate a new device identifier.

Under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) of South Africa, you have the right to:

• Know what personal information is being collected (this policy serves that purpose)
• Request access to your personal information
• Request correction or deletion of your personal data
• Object to the processing of your data

Since SA Says collects no personally identifiable information, these rights are inherently respected by the design of the App. If you have concerns, please contact us.

From time to time, SA Says runs prize giveaways. Because every device already has the anonymous identifier described in Section 2, we can enter devices into a random draw and pick a winner without collecting any additional personal information to do so.

If your device is selected, you'll receive an in-app notification with a claim code and a stated window of time to claim your prize. If it isn't claimed within that window, a new winner is drawn at random. No purchase is necessary to enter, and entry is tied only to your anonymous device identifier, not your identity.

If you send us a message through the contact form on sasays.co.za, we receive the name, email address and message you choose to give us. We use that information for one purpose only: to read and reply to your enquiry.

This information is delivered to us by email. It is not connected to your anonymous device identifier, your poll votes or your giveaway entries — the App and the contact form are entirely separate. We do not add you to a mailing list, and we do not share or sell what you send us.

If you would like us to delete your enquiry and our reply, email us and we will remove it from our mailbox.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected in the App and on our website. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
