These are the standards that govern child safety in SA Says. They explain what we prohibit, how the app is built to reduce the risk of harm, how to report a concern, and who to contact.
Our commitment
SA Says has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation, known as CSAE. Material that sexually exploits or endangers a child has no place in this app, is never permitted, and is removed as soon as we find it. These standards apply to everyone who uses SA Says and to every poll, image, video and message that passes through it.
What is not allowed
We prohibit child sexual abuse material and child sexual exploitation material in any form. We also prohibit the sexualisation of a minor, grooming, sextortion, the solicitation of a child, the trafficking of a child, and promoting, advertising, requesting or linking to any of these.
This covers every part of SA Says: the wording of a poll, its answers, its image or video, a poll suggestion, and anything typed into the in-app report form.
How SA Says is built to reduce risk
SA Says is a polling app, not a social network. There are no accounts and no profiles. There is no chat, no direct messaging, and no way for one user to contact another. Users cannot upload an image or a video. Nothing a user writes is shown publicly. Every poll is written and published by the SA Says team, so all content in the app is reviewed by us before anyone sees it.
A user casts an anonymous vote and can send a private message to our team. That design removes most of the routes by which this material spreads, but it does not remove our duty to act, which is why these standards and the reporting channel below exist.
How to report a concern
Anyone can report a concern from inside the app, without leaving it and without an account:
- Open the About tab
- Choose Feedback and safety
- Tap Report a concern
- Select Child safety concern
You can also email us at childsafety@sasays.co.za. A report may be anonymous. The form asks for an email address only if you would like a reply, and leaving it blank does not change how the report is handled.
What we do with a report
Every report reaches the SA Says team and is recorded. We review each child safety report, take down anything that breaches these standards, and preserve what may be needed if an investigation follows.
We keep a record of every report we receive, including those we decide need no further action, so that our handling of it can be checked afterwards. Reports are never deleted.
Working with the authorities
Where a report concerns material that appears to be unlawful, we report it to the South African Police Service and, where the Films and Publications Act 65 of 1996 applies, to the Film and Publication Board.
We cooperate with lawful requests from South African authorities, and with recognised child protection organisations where a report concerns someone outside South Africa.
Child safety contact
Questions about these standards, and about how SA Says prevents child sexual abuse and exploitation, go to The SA Says Child Safety Team at childsafety@sasays.co.za. That address is monitored and reaches a person able to speak to our practices and to our compliance with this policy.
Who SA Says is for
SA Says is intended for adults. You must be 18 or older to use the app and to enter a prize draw. The app is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from a child.
Changes to these standards
We review these standards as the app changes and as the law requires. This version was published on 23 September 2026.
